The spotted pardalote (Pardalotus punctatus), affectionately nicknamed the “diamond bird,” is one of Australia’s smallest and most striking songbirds, measuring just 8–10 cm in length. Found across eastern and southern Australia, including Tasmania, it is often heard before seen with its distinctive whistle. They forage for lerps in the canopy of eucalypt forests.  Spotted pardalotes nest in burrows or unusual urban spots like garage roll-a-doors, making them surprisingly adaptable to human environments.
