Superb fairywrens (Malurus cyaneus) are dazzling little songbirds native to southeastern Australia, including Tasmania. Males are striking as they don their vivid electric blue and black tuxedos for the breeding season. Females and non-breeding males, however, wear more modest brown tones. These birds are known for their lively social lives and complex mating systems - despite forming monogamous pairs, they often engage in extra-pair matings, earning them the nickname “the least faithful birds in the world”.
